Portuguese Translator Mercedes Bourgaize has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Translation from the University of Brasilia, Brazil, and a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

With over 35 years of experience translating both ways between English and Brazilian Portuguese, Mercedes is a past president of, and is certified by the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (S.T.I.B.C.).

As well as being a Portuguese Translator, Mercedes is fluent in Spanish and holds a Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), issued by the Ministry of Education in Spain.

Mercedes has over twenty years of experience as a Technical Services Librarian, working for the United States Information Service (USIS) at the American Embassy in Brazil for about ten years, and another ten years as a law librarian for Harris & Company, the largest Labour and Employment law firm in Western Canada. As a translator, Mercedes gained valuable experience in these roles. Legal research and technical documentation are often required in certain aspects of translation work.
